I just joined the SMF forum, been hanging around the Virtual Weber Bullet forum for a bit.  I am looking to get a new smoker, I currently have a 10 year old New Braunfels Black Diamond (used about 10 times), a Weber Silver B gas grill and a Weber 22 inch kettle.

Been looking at the Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5 water smoker and will eventually get one, in the meantime I was at Bass Pro today and saw the Masterbilt XL on sale for $159, less my 10% Disabled Vet discount and $70 in a gift certificate and rewards points I could get it for about $70 brand new.

One thing I enjoy but also hate about the NBBD is that you are monkeying with the temp every 10 minutes.

I would like to be able to fire up the smoker, put in some ribs or a butt and go shooting at the range and then come back 3 hours later and be getting ready to go.

My wife asked why do I need another grill/smoker? I asked her why does she need an antique firetruck in the garage (1981 Chevy 1 ton brush truck) - turned out to be a bad idea, the question that is.

I still want to save up the $300 for the WSM but for $70 I find the XL hard to pass up, and one of my 3 boys, my youngest a lefty who also shoots, said he wants to give it to me for my 60th birthday next month

Been spending my time reading the mods for the MB XL, I have a cast iron fry pan from 1890 that I will use for the wood, and I haven't even bought the unit yet.

I am looking forward to my time here.

The 1890 I got off ebay when I was trying to fill in some holes in my cast iron cook ware, the logo is gone, it had been abused in the past

I have two Wagner 14 skillets, they are monsters, one was Grandma's and the other the mother-in-law's

I love cast iron, but the 1890 (I have one same age with National logo) holds screws in my workshop

Okay then!  I love my Cast iron and collect it too!  You have some great pieces!  BTW....when I saw your "name"....brought a smile remembering the TV show!
