We've had a cast iron dutch oven for years and love using it. We also have a wood fire oven. One night after making pizza we decided to make bean hole beans in the wood fire oven. For pizza cooking the temp is close to 1000 degrees.
We put the beans in the dutch oven, put the lid on, into the oven and closed the door. Well . . . the oven was way too hot. The next morning when we got out the dutch oven we couldn't open it. Let it cool for a while and the lid came off and we had cremated beans. Not burned beans, cremated. Too much heat retained in the oven when we added the beans.
We dumped out the beans and there were ashes. But, there was a lot left behind. The pot was scrubbed and re-seasoned. But now it seems to be flaking off the sides in places.
What can we do, if anything? There's no rust, but it sure looks like it's peeling.
TIA.
