I have a barrel I got from a buddy that was used for part of a polyurethane foam insulation spray. I'm guessing I need to scrap it and find an old motor oil or hydraulic fluid one or something. I can't seem to find a place in the Texas panhandle that has an unlined barrel I can jump right into. But if anyone thinks the one I have would be safe to use, I'd appreciate the advice as it would save me a lot of time :)

Someone on here talked me out of buying one used for liquid insulation. I've since looked it up and the stuff is of course toxic.  Most likely it would have been ok after it was burned but why take the chance.

I went to a metal recycling place and they get them in all the time...Blue outside and white inside which i believe was used for hydraulic fluid or the like.

I would not, I repeat not get a food grade barrel. That liner that makes it food grade is so dang hard to remove. I found candle wax barrels for free in my neighbor's back alley.
You just burn the liner out. Get a couple of hard wood pallets break them up, and use them to light a fire in the barrel. Burns the liner right out, but you got to get it HOT!

ok so found some barrels at the local scrap yard. they already have the lids cut off them, but they sell them for $4. could i buy two of them and use the bottom of the second one as the lid? my goal is to make this as cheap as possible. also i dont really have access to or know how to use a welder...

Can you find A kettle BBQ lid around? Maybe at the same scrap yard if your lucky. I guess I was lucky to get Barrels with removable lids. I would really try to find that type of drum or A webber or similar lid that seals well. Otherwise you lose that airtight seal that is the beauty of A UDS. My first one was food grade and I had to burn it out so hot that I ended up with thin spots around the air inlets. You might watch craigslist for A cheap kettle or maybe a big box store for a Webber type grill. With having the whole grill you get the grate, the bottom of your fire basket, handles, and lid. Just a thought.

ive heard of people buying the kettle style grills at walmart, etc. i may end up doing that... i have a kettle grill i use, but its my regular everyday grill so i dont wanna cannibalize it lol. ive got nothing but time so i will be looking for some kind of weber grill on craigslist or something. i've got the two barrels now so i may try and figure out a way to make it work
