Hi all,

I just picked up a Brinkmann Gourmet Electric Smoker. I'm a complete smoking rookie.  I picked up my first grill last summer, love it so much that I decided to try my hand at smoking. Trying to decide what my first smoked meat should be. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Scott

Welcome Scott. Glad to have you here with us. I would consider starting with chicken. Chicken is easy and delicious and if you do mess it up, you're not out alot of change. You may want to pick up a temperature gauge if you don't have one. Most of us cook by temperature rather than time on this site. You know exactly where you are at using thermometers..

Lots of good people on here to help you when you need it. Simple ask.

Here is a great site for an awesome thermometer. It gauges the temperature of the food and the inside of the smoker temp at the same time. Maverick ET732. It also has a timer if you want to use it. The link below is Todd's web site. He is a member of the forum here too. He also make an Amaze M Pellet smoker that really put out the smoke. Everyone on this site calls it an AMNPS.  This place is full of acronyms...Again welcome aboard...

I would suggest ribs pretty straight forward following the 3-2-1 method(for spare ribs) 2-2-1 for baby backs.. no meat thermo needed for that.

Oh NO!  LOL....it is just a part of my welcome. Just trying to help folks not "get in trouble" from the start.  LOL

There are guidelines and need to be at least scanned/read.  (I never read directions either....and its just a reminder.)

Glad you joined!
