Any day you can ditch electric for propane is a good day! And any day you can ditch propane......well that's another story!

Well since it's an original kinda hard to give tips. I would give it a good burn in to see how it handles then throw some meat in and see what it does! The only way to know for sure is to fire it up!

I am actually more worried about the seasoning or preparation of this BBQ.  It was a kerosene barrel and then all the parts that are being welded into it are steel bar stock that is pickled in oil.

Is cranking it up a couple times then washing it out, and then re-cranking it good enough or should I season/condition it some how.

Maybe some marinated ribs from Gartners ?????

Well I have used it a couple weekends now.  It works perfectly, better than I expected.  No grease falls through the bottom.  It prevents flare up nicely, and cooks great.  Does a great job at smoking also.  Easy to clean.

If I can get solidworks back up and running on my workstation then I will post a zip file with all the drawings so others can consider this a cooking solution.

Hey there Mac. Looks like it's been a bit since you posted this. Was wondering how that lil bbq of yours has held up. Have you done any mods or have any tips. Was thinking about building something like this.

Good timing.  I was just going to give an update and make a couple changes.  So first off I must say that this is the best BBQ that I have ever had.  I got ride of my big Stainless Duquane, and only use this now to server all of my BBQing needs.  It travels well and I am able to use my cast iron dutch ovens in it also.

The bottom did rust out, Then barrel material just doesn't hold up.  I am planning on cutting the bottom out and welding in some 10 gauge plate or something that will hopefully last longer.  At the same time I will probably make another grease plate and put those angles underneath it instead of in the bottom of the BBQ.  Otherwise I would not chnage it in any other way.  Everybody that camped with me and cooked with it loved it.
