Signed up today .. but I must have read half a years posts before I dropped the hammer on a MES 30 electric from Cabela's on the 11th .

Many thanks to the community and the dedication of other posters like Smokin-Al who shared with others and as a result answered all the questions I had in a number of his responses ..

I have always been a "top down" griller .. so it is about time I took the next step .. ( baby step ) and jumped to a MES30 ..

Yes I am aware that Cabela's dropped their price by $100.00 today and they will refund the difference if you contact them within a 7 day period .. I did, and Barb @ CS has advised me I will get the $100.00 refund .. I had to throw down a total of $535.00 for the unit with shipping/duty/taxes ( air ) so the price drop really helps .. I cry when I read that some of you folks can hit these units at Low's for $179.00 .. but then again I guess you need to be compensated for the lack of ability to take day long trips on a Ski-doo and enjoy -11c weather like I have today :-) ..... Yah right ! :-)

I live in Canada .. in the province ( Like a US state ) of Newfoundland .. It is on the east coast so I get the sun first :-)

Thanks to all the posters .. I will supply unit serial number and size of chip tray etc. as this seems to be a common thread of interest .. I dropped the hammer before the new units came out as I believe you guys seem to have all the bugs covered in the older ones .. the new model will most likely bring new problems and if they do not .. then I would miss the opportunity to tinker :-)

My weakness is Montreal Smoked Meat .. ( like pastrami ) .. so I should be good to go :-)

Hey Bye, no need to get screeched-in here. Nice to have a bayman on board.

Real smoked meat(Schwartz's) is easy to make and a good recipe is on - The sausagemaker.com listed under Daigle's Montreal Smoked Brisket. I followed the recipe using eye of the round. Easier to work with and get here in Upper Canada (Away). So welcome and you can contact me,if you run into problems.

First off welcome to SMF there Ross. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.
