My name is Donnie and I hail from Iowa City Iowa, home of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. I work as a nurse at the local VA Medical Center taking care of america's hero's. I am also a 20 year vet myself.
I got my smoker about a year ago, it is a Brinkman electric. I did some research and talked with a couple of people who have smokers and decided electric was the way for me to start out. Other than adding wood for smoke it is pretty much idiot proof and I have had pretty good results. My smoker gets up to about 250 degrees and stays there... as advertized. I find that I often have to "finish" on my gas grill as I have a hard time getting anything hotter than about 180 degrees. I understand meats goes into a stall, I find that even after hours in the stall it won't get any hotter. I am to impatient?
Anyway thats my story, I have been smoking at least a couple times a month (more in the summer) year around and really enjoy the results. I still have alot of things I want to try and really appreciate Jeff's site for info, recipies and his awsome rub. I look ofrward to the forums. Good Day.
