I'm at it again.... Too many threads of "Snack Sticks" not to mention the number of threads on "Home made Mozzarella"... That is a different story....

Back to the "sticks".... So I checked on tubes available for my Grizzly stuffer... seems the LEM tubes fit..... Well I have this PEX tubing around from re plumbing the guest house and DIL's house.... they call it 3/8" PEX... I think that is I.D.  anyway it is about 13mm O.D..... perfect for edible collagen 17-19 mm casing and making sticks... Now if I can shove the beef thru the tube, I've got it made... I haven't tested it yet but on these cold long winter nights I needed something to do....

Here is the process....

Tubing flare tool, tubing and torch...

Insert the tubing in the flaring kit and apply a gentle amount of heat all around the tubing.....

apply pressure to flare the tubing and heat as necessary to continue flaring....

After heating and flaring this is what I ended up with.......

I inserted the new tube into the smallest tube...18mm and trimmed to have a clean fit

I do not have collagen casings yet... I will order them soon... this tube should be long enough and hopefully I can push meat thru it...  If not... Oh well... it is a long cold winter...........

Thanks for looking and hopefully I gave you some ideas on making your own stuff... it can be fun...

I have a stuffing tube for snack sticks, that came with my Cabelas stuffer, very similar to the one you made.  Mine has a Stainless tube on a plastic base

Great Idea Dave!

Now, let's see it in action!!!

You may have to water down your meat a little, in order for the meat to go thru the tube, and not past the O-Ring seal on the plunger

Looking good Dave - hit it with some food grade silicon before stuffing and I bet it will work great.

good job Bro.....keep an eye on the pex wanting to go back to its "original", workin with pex for floor heating i've noticed that if it does not have a mating surface(connector) and such, it will try to form back.....just keep and eye on it.....good idea

Looks great and like JJ said how much would you make one for me for????? You have all the tools that I don't . PM me if you would be interested.

I'll check into mailing rates and shipping tubes etc...  The stuffing tube will be N/C...  Lets start a list of folks who will want one....  and the lengths... I think the max length is about 23"... I have to check that too at the USPS next week.....

Merry CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR...   Dave

NEW MATERIAL..... 1/2" OD Copper refer tubing I think.... type L.... soft....

THIS WILL STUFF.... I GAR-ON-T (Justin Wilson immitation)

          Copper       PEX

ID        .425"        .343"

OD      .500"        .500"

Wall    .038"        .079"

That is a HUGE difference....easier to push meat through... Draw back.. Bends easily.. need to take it easy with it.. heavier..more expensive... $2/foot

Same deal to flare the end.... the flare wasn't as big in dia..... I will wrap the tube with electrical tape to make a better fit in 2 places....

The difference in tubing.....

Any plumbing shop should have the tubing and can flare it for you.... Maybe places like ACE or Menards.... Home D has the tubing in 20ft.  rolls $38.....

This is a piece from my compressor I had to remodel... A free-B.... don't get any better than that...

Questions ????.....  I'm ready....   Dave
