Bass pro is having a sale on the MES 30 stainless  on black friday  for $179. i am going to go pick one up  my question is  do the new models still need the retro kit  or have they fixed it and can i call them now and get it sent on the way that way i am good to go when i pick up the new unit?

The new units I have seen still need the upgrade.

They will ask for the model number before sending it out.

And as far as I know they are on back order.

Here's the list of model numbers and as you can see it has yours listed as having the small chip box.

If you have the big one then maybe they have changed them & are not sending out the ones with the small chip box anymore.

You should wait & see.

It's probably a toss-up right now, and it's only fair to make sure yours doesn't work, before getting a replacement.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Ikrus, afternoon..... If you get a AMNPS from Todd, you will never need to use the chip tray... You will have total control of the smoke with the AMNPS and total control of the heat with the electronic temp control..   The best of both worlds... Just my thoughts... Dave

Maybe that's why they are on back order, because all the new ones have the bigger tray.

Probably so, I'm supposed to be getting a new tray for mine since mine is kinda warped and doesn't slide in and out easily so it's getting replaced under warranty. I figured I would have the new one in by now, but I figured it's probably backordered which explains why I haven't yet received it. Not a big deal since I now have a AMNPS.

Just wanted to share.  I just got the MES 30" from Amazon as an xmas gift from my wife, the model # is 20070910.

it does come with the new larger wood chip tray (as shown in the video), and has a heating element access panel.

About to season the smoker now

MES 30" link  ( I picked mine up from the amazon warehouse for $173.99 had some scratches and the hinge plastic piece was broken, but everything else was fine)
