Well, I thought I was buying an MES40 for a fantastic price (Craigslist), but after getting home I discovered I picked up a MES 30 for a good price. New out of box, unseasoned. Questions, can the 30 handle a whole pork shoulder? Should I be looking at upgrading the element? It has the 800--or unload it and buy the 40? Wife is STILL laughing! :(

Is it digital or analog? I have a digital 30 and do whole shoulders, hams, you name it. just did a 15 1/2 lb whole turkey. keep it and buy the 40 then you'll really be smokin!

No need to feel bad or sad, your MES 30 will do a fine job and can handle a pork shoulder just fine.

Use it and enjoy it!

Attention Newbies!!!

This thread is a good example of why it is nice for people to know approximately where members live.

You should have NO problem smoking a Pork Shoulder in your MES 30----And that 800 Watt element should be plenty-------------Especially since you reside in Florida !!!!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, it is the digital, it is one month old, guy won it at work and had no idea what it was. I think he made an honest mistake when he listed it as the 40. I have been using a modified charcoal offset with pretty good results, but the family complains about charcoal taste and I complain about the all nighter brisket smokes- and insanity of keeping temps where I want it. This unit is the perfect solution for all of us. Will keep it, very good looking box!
