Farewell U-Haul color scheme! Hello stealth smoker!

We started working on the taillights, sidemarkers, and breakaway when disaster struck. The shielding gas bottle fell over smashing one of the gauges on the regulator thus ending our day.

Tomorrow we finish up a few welds and the wiring. Fork lift will be there at 2pm to put the smoker on the trailer.

been waiting for this day for a while now Joel, everything looks great and you all have done a fantastic job on this. Can't wait till I can hang for a day while it's in use and enjoy some of the good stuff to come out of it.

I'm not here much but when I am I have to hunt this new thing down. The trailor is looking really sweet there Joel and I like bob can't wait to sit around smoking you know an Elephant or something around this thing. Great Job and keep up the good work.

Me neither Bob although I don't think you, myself and Maya are gonna be able to put down enough to justify firing it up. We will have to plan an outing. :o)

Mark! I hope you are doing well friend. You and Bob need to get together and plan a trip to NC and we will kick out some Q. Hopefully the works ends tomorrow. I want my weekends back. lol

Bummer about the regulator but hopefully you got the trailer finished and the smoker mounted today I look forward to more pics

Phase 1 construction is complete! Phase 2 will be outfitting the trailer with the rest of the mobile kitchen we want. What we have done now is what we need to get through the festival.

Carlos and his magic forklift showed up about 6 hours ahead of schedule so we went with it.

With just the smoker on the trailer, the weight was perfectly balanced from front to rear which is not a good thing. We offset the smoker to driver's side. A three compartment stainless steel sink is destined for the back of the smoker.

Just after we set it on the trailer. It is not bolted or welded in at this point.

After that we worked on wiring and getting it roadworthy. And then it was time for the test drive. We went for a few mile drive and got it up to 65mph. Trailer tracked great but the brakes on it are not working so we will have to investigate that. And yes, that is almost 400 lbs of sand ratchet strapped on the front to help give us some tongue weight.

We are all set for the festival! After the festival we will regroup and start figuring out Phase 2.

That is going to be one MANLY smoker.  Can't wait to see the finished product.

Here it is in all of its Phase 1 glory! I just noticed you are in Stokesdale Gunny. Howdy neighbor!

When towing it, it looks like a submarine is tailgating you in the rearview mirror.

Thanks Jerry! I got quite a few ideas thanks to yours, Tim's and Kenny's smokers back in April. I learned a lot from that experience and learned a lot more from this one.

Thats looks fantastic Joel!!!!!! got your pic on the way back to Chicago this am. and just smiled and smiled. I know you have really been looking foward to this day and wa-la it's here.Good luck this WE. and afterwards you can take a deep breath- colllect your thoughts and fine tune that bad ass smoker. once again you all have done a great job my friend. One day I hope to be there during one of it's many planned uses.

Right on Solar!  Have a blast at the festival!!!!

John

Thanks John! I gotta place my meat order tomorrow. I think meat is the only thing that costs more than steel these days.

If you aren't doing anything tomorrow at 11am boyjko is coming down for a tour if you want to join us. He is bringing some sausage for lunch. Otherwise, come check it out in person on Saturday at Bethania. I would love to give you a tour of it.

We will have to get together and share some Que and Brew someday. I don't know where you get your meat for for smoking. I have had good luck and prices with Shulers in Thomasville.

Lately I have been getting stuff from local farms for personal consumption. For events I am using Sam's Club since nobody seems to be able to touch their case prices including Shuler's and Orrell's. Orrell's does have a better price on whole shoulders though.

looking very nice sure wish I was closer to come check it out and try some of that q you guys been turning out

I hope we get some good pics from the event this time. Pics are still trickling in from two weeks ago. Hopefully this will help.

You guys did a heck of a job.  I'm in Sanford, so I'll try to make one of the events where you cook so I can see it.
