Has anyone used one of these for smoking?

I have a Brinkmann Professional Dual Zone Heavy Duty Charcoal Grill seen here.

I got it used not long ago and haven't tried smoking in it yet, but was wondering if I could? If someone on this forum has used it as such? It's got no smoke stack/baffle. The back of the lid has a lip that allows smoke to escape. I can drop one of the charcoal plates to the bottom on one side and remove half of the center plate and raise the opposite charcoal plate all the way up (where the meet would be), but again, with the lip in the lid that allows smoke to escape, would this be a problem? Any mods I can do with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Just set it up to cook indirect, put the coals on one side with a couple of wood chunks, and the meat on the other side, so the meat is not directly over the heat. It should work fine. The hard part will be trying to control the temp without having vents. You would want to start a very small fire using the minnion method, and keep it under control as best you can. You may need to spritz the fire to calm it down or add fresh charcoal to get the heat up. It will be a challenge for sure.

X2 on what Al said.

Hardest things will be temp control and working with no exhaust vent.  I would leave the intake vents wide open in hopes of forcing enough air flow to get smoke moving out from the lip on the lid.

Good luck and good smoking.

Crazy, my grill has NO intake vents even. Kinda strange. I suppose I could make some...and even put a smoke stack on it too, I just hate to cut into the thing. Oh well. Thanks for the replies so far guys!!
