Hello all,

I am looking to start my first RF build and I just am looking at making a nice size patio RF just for backyard smoking and small size parties. I was looking to make it about 20"x35' and a firebox accordingly. I have been scouring the forums and trying to take in as much as i possibly can. I have all the necessary tools and fab skills to do this build just need a push in the right direction. I would actually love to make a nice size trailer RF once my smoking skills are up to par. I have a few questions and I would love to get some more information.

1) I see people talking about a spreadsheet calculator for the dimension of the smoker, just i can t seem to find it. Rana search and all and havent seen it on here. (Probably user error..LOL)

2) I am looking at getting either some 1/4 thick pipe and making my own pit or getting propane tanks and making the RF smoker out of that. I was just wondering where you all get the propane tanks and where are good places to look.

3) I really like the idea that yoder uses for the RF plate on their Wichita smoker in which it is a standard RF plate but has holes drilled evenly across is with the hole increasing in size the farther from the firebox you go. Is there any cons to making the RF plate this way? Also would that actually be considered a true RF plate? (Just curios)

Any help to get me started inthe right way would be very much appreciated.

1.) http://www.feldoncentral.com/bbqcalculator.html

2.) I got my tanks from a propane company and they were decommissioned tanks. Scrapyards also will have a nice selection of large diameter steel pipe that would work well.

3.) That is more of a tuning plate than an RF plate.

If you put too large or to many holes.Your heat will not go to the end before it goes up.Square inchs should less in the plate than in the turn up.
