Here goes nothing, The pulled pork was my first smoke ever and the ribs were done a week later. I was fortunate enough to get an 18" WSM for my birthday last month from my gf and have turned into a full blown smoke-a-holic over the last few weeks. Thank you all for this awesome community, if it weren't for all of you I would have probably given up by now but there is so much information available on here I don't seem to have enough time or money to try all the rubs, injections and cuts of meat I would like to. But enough talk onto the Q-View. By the way in an attempt to keep track of my success, failure, likes and dislikes in all of this I started a blog to document all of my experimenting. Its kind of q view heavy but if you want more pictures just look here:

I used a modified version of Jeff's Rub on both the pork shoulders and ribs but left the sauce alone on this first smoke. I have to add his bbq sauce is awesome!!!

For this first smoke I rubbed one butt with plain yellow mustard, and left the other plain before applying rub to both.

It looks like everything came out great, nice smoke ring on the pork too. Thanks for sharing the great Q View. It's all good my friend.

Yeah, this forum has been invaluable so far. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have learned just reading this website, not to mention the equipment tips, the maverick et-73 was probably my best purchase besides the smoker itself, nothing better than sitting back with a beer and a movie with your wireless thermometer keeps an eye on things for you.

My neighbors cat is hilarious every time I have smoked something, start the smoker or check the meat he will come outside to watch me. He a cracks me up he wont ever let me pet him, but he sure loves watching me smoke, from a safe distance of course!

irie,

You really learn fast!

You've been turning out some fine looking eats in a short time!

Thanks for showing,

Bear

Great Job on the smokes!!!  I'm sure after your neighbor realizes what good Que you are producing, you will be finding him on your porch getting his cat to come back over (wink, wink).  Keep guard of the smoker!!!

I don't if its as much being a fast learner as it is being a good reader... haha. I think I have had a combination of good luck and a lot of good information on hand from some very experienced smokers on here.

I don't doubt that at all... My neighbor down below the cat has been teasing me "in Texas all you need is a good grill for good bbq...." I beg the differ.
Nice looking smokes! Glad to see the WSM is treating you well, they really are a great smoker for the $$.
your telling me, I did a lot of homework on this purchase and couldn't be happier. Since I started using it ive kind of been waiting for something to go really bad and yet it never happens. Its a breeze to use and a pleasure to smoke with.

I don't think hes alone either, its funny seeing people walking by trying to figure out where the smell is coming from.

Thanks! The cat will lounge like that as long as I'm outside. I Think hes plotting to heist some q, now if only he could figure out a way to get that lid off...
