First I want to say thanks.....This place has helped out tremendously. I was at Costco the other day and saw that all the packages of tri-tip were WAY under priced. Asked the butcher what was up with the pricing and his eyes about popped out of his head. For bringing that to his attention he let me grab 2 packs. I got 15lbs of tri-tip for about $16..Best score ever!!!  Wed night after work, I opened up a pack and used some of my dads marinade. Pulled them out of the fridge about 2 hours ago, let em get to room temp and tossed em on the smoker.....They've been on for about an hour. Cooking them between 225-245.

Does 1 hr per pound sound about right? Or should I pull them off when the internal temp gets to about 130-140? How long should they rest for? Wrap in foil?

Here they are ready to go on the smoker....

I cook tritip to temp - I like them rare so 130 - 140 is where I stop and wrap them in foil and then into towels in a cooler for  about an hour - good luck and lets see some qview

I wish I could get me some tri-tips on this side of the country.

Yeah, cook to temp. i yank mine around 140 since I like beef to just hit the med rare mark. I run my smoker a little hotter around 250-275 for tri-tips though. I like just a hint of smoke but rely on the beef flavor without making the meat sweat too long.

Now that is some good advise on Tri Tip, I use that method myself. It's all good my friend.
