IOWA!!
Had party this last weekend, 2 people asked"What kinda pellets do you use" Told them I don't use pellets, I burn wood. Got this real dumb look from them and they asked "well, then where do you get the smoke flavor", Told them I burn wood again, oak, hickory, apple, mulberry, and so on. Still not understanding me, I give them a tour of my smoker, A Horizon Marshall. After abit of explaining, I think they got it. C0me to find out, They (2 brothers) told me they burn Briquettes, and pellets, Never heard of lump or that they could burn wood in their SnP's. Further more, they didn't know you could get a smoke flavor from wood alone. They showed up last nite, and I gave the a tutorial of how to run their smokers, starting off with lump, then to wood for an entire cook WITH OUT pellets.

Job well done on educating a fellow smoker! Did you also turn them onto the SMF page? Hopefully they learned a few things from your and can bring their smoking up to the next level. That is what I have always liked about the SMF. Everyone is always willing to help out and explain things to a fellow smoker friend no matter their skill level.

I did tell them about this place, but when I said computer, they looked at each other and smiled. I think their Kids will have to show them how to get here.

Great guys, just had to learn it for them selves in the past, I have told them to get a hold of me when they smoke something in the future and I would try to help them out.

AND, they started smokeing on metal 5 gallon buckets, then moved up to ECB's and now on SnP's. They did like the looks of my WSM, so hopefully they may pick up on those.

LOL I'm guessing that they're a couple young guys?

You're a good man for showing them the ropes buzz.

ok I am a new guy here.  my smoking experience up till now has been mostly smoked salmon in a big chief.  but now I am growing up.  I was wondering if there is anywhere on this site that lists most of the appreviations and their meaning.  I just finally figured out that uds mean ugly drum smoker.  if there was a list I might not have to wait so long to figure out the next one.  LOL

thanks

I agree, this place is one of the most kind sites that I have seen!

Smokebuzz, job well done.

great story! reminds me of once at the grocery when i was picking up a packer brisket a girl struck up a conversation about it, and she advised me to cook it in the crock pot instead of on the smoker.  I felt kinda sorry for her.

Upon seeing a chuck clod in its cryo pack several people are repulsed and swear they would not eat it no matter what.

However when server pulled or sliced beef from it they rave about the taste.

Where do they think it comes from?

I have an old buddy, practically lifelong pals. We have lived states apart for our entire adult lives. We talk on the phone, and he told me he had gotten an offset smoker, but had no clue as to how to use it. He asked me to tell him, and I tried, but there's just so much to communicate. A phone conversation can't possibly get it all. I tried to get him to go to SMF, but he doesn't even use email. His wife has a computer but he won't use it. So sad for the technically challenged. It can really impair your analog life.

I have several friends who were using charcoal and pellets. They have almost all converted to wood after tasting the difference. I "pimp" this site every chance I get. I have never found a better group of folks in one place to help anyway they can. I'm glad too see others growing the family on here.
