OK you electronic geniuses:

The last couple times I've used my MES 30, I have been having a problem with the digital read-out.

The first digit on the left doesn't come on after it is set.

In other words, if it should say time:

12.14

It says 2.14

If it should say temp:

216 or 116

It says 16

The confusing part is, the problem is only after it is set!

While I'm setting it, all of the digits are there.

Why is that, and is there anything I can do to fix that???

Temporarily I've been just using common sense. I know the box temp is not 16˚ in PA in August, but sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on.

If it was made out of wood, I could fix it easily.

Thanks in advance,

Hmmm, I shall put that on my list to try Monday, when I smoke my cured Turkey breast. I also read (in a search) to unplug it & plug it in again (not the electric cord----The digital control unit). That would make sense. I used to have to do that with my first couple of computers.

Anything else to put on my list guys ??

Thanks,

Bear

Great Deal Darryl,

I'll gladly ship it to you after Monday as you proposed. I'd ship it tomorrow, but it still works good enough to smoke the 2 Turkey Breast halves I have curing in my meat fridge. I'm pulling them Sunday & smoking Monday. I wouldn't want to throw them away, as I have nothing else to smoke them with.

I'm wondering, since it will be unplugged to send it to you, and then replugged when you get it, should I try that first to see if that fixes it? I would hate to send it to you, and because it was unplugged by me, and plugged in by you, it starts to work right. Then you'd think I was telling a story.

Hi Bear,

No worries, just send it back, I'll test it, and see if I can get it to repeat the problem.  Either way, you get a new controller.   Hope the Turkey turns out great!  Tks.

Will do, Thank You Very Much! I guess you are another reason so many of us on this forum like the MES.

Real Great deal!

I think the symptoms my control has are very unique. MBTechguy is like a Doctor who wants to be the first to cure a very rare disease. Now I'm hoping it doesn't fix itself, and not be like the millions of cars that only work right when they get to the garage.

My son has had his wife's Land Rover to the dealer 5 times so far (warranty), because it leaks when it rains. They keep saying it's fixed. It keeps leaking. The last time, they removed & put back in the windshield & the sun roof, and replaced the sunroof drain. It still leaks. Now they are removing the head liner!

Hi Bear,

Received your unit today, and carried your order out to shipping, to make sure it ships today.  Sorry you couldn't have it back for the holiday.  I haven't had a chance to check it yet, but will let you know what i find.  Let me know when you receive the new controller.  Tks.

Hi MBTechguy

Glad to see you here.

I have a four year old MES30 and really like it, despite the fact that I've had to open up the back panel twice to repair the connections to the heating unit.  I note with pleasure the fact that the new models have an access panel that would make that job easier.  I intend to modify the back of my MES to give it an access panel the next time the connections go bad.   Is it possible to order parts that would help with that?

I might also mention that at the time I bought mine, many MES models were in stores that did not have a latch on the door, but attempted to seal via magnets.   The latch was a great improvement.

I wonder if you could give us what the company was thinking about when it modified the chip box and the chip feed loader by making it half size and putting extra metal between it and the heating element.  That is one thing that would really make me reluctant to buy a MES40 in the future.

Thank You much MBTechguy,

I think it would be hard for you to get it back to me for the holiday, since I didn't get it to you until yesterday. I thank you for your fine service & consideration.

Just wanted to post about the great service I just got from "MBTechguy", of Masterbuilt.

I sent my digital controller to Masterbuilt. I got the new one 4 working days after they got mine. Included was also a gift--a brand new MES cover for my MES30 too. That is some great service right there!

So I'm back in action!

Thank You Masterbuilt, and congrats on acquiring such a Great Employee,

Bear

I dont have a MES but if I'm ever looking for a electric smoker that's the one. That's some customer service right there.
