I smoked my first pork butt yesterday....what a journey....went on the grate around 8AM Saturday, started resting around 11PM, pulled it around 4am Sunday morning after it (and I) rested for many hours (dropped to about 170F).  Despite my inexperience and some weather changes throughout the day, it came out yummy.  I'm so glad I found this forum....would not have been able to do this without the wealth of information found here.  Thanks all.  Thanks Jeff for the rub and sauce and forum.  Thanks meowy for the basic pulled pork sticky and thanks SoFlaQuer for the finishing sauce sticky.  Some Q-view:

Rubbed and about to go in the fridge overnight:

Sorry, it was kind of a hectic day and the fiance and I did not get any pics during the cooking process.  I misted with apple juice around every hour after the meat hit 140F.  Wrapped it in foil at 165F (after a seemingly endless stall at 159F).  Here it is after resting from 205F down to 170F (about 5 hours wrapped in towels in a cooler):

Here's my bowl....I mean, here it is all pulled with just a splash of finishing sauce mixed in....was in the fridge for many hours at this point:

And finally, a quick snack:

Thanks, and nope.  I picked up a two pack at a local "wholesaler" meat market.

Looking good.   What did you use for the sauce??

Nice job on your first "butt". Is that sweet baby ray's?
It's my version of Jeff"s sauce (and rub).  Recipe for both is offered for sale on www.smoking-meat.com.  Worth every penny.

I like Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Chipotle.  Gonna' try that on a sandwich tomorrow.
