THEY GO OUT AND SPEND YOUR MONEY !!!!!!

LOL I have outgrown my standard GOSM and after about a year of looking for a bigblock, finding one  several times then backing out because I am cheap the wife and children got me one for fathers day...

They even picked dear old dad up a new deep fryer as well. another Item I had backed out on a couple times agaiin because I am cheap..

So what do I need to do to this thing to get it up to speed?

I have done several modifications on my little GOSM but that was over about 4 years and short of the cast iron skillet for a chip pan I cannot remember what I need to do to it.

Figure I will season it with shortning hopefully on wed when I am off.

Fire away... I know my little smoker has started having problems maintaining a constant temp. I figure it is due to the valve getting old,,, not sure. Used to set it and for all practical purpouses forget it.

The first thing you need to do is RUN (I know it's hard to) over and grab those kids and give them a GREAT BIG HUG and say thanks you. Then wave at the wife and throw her a wink. Next thing is season that puppy and see what happens. If it smokes well hell leave it alone and keep on smoking. Then you can go and buy yes Jeff Buy a hot plate (it's only 10. bucks) but you might find one at a garage sell but I dont think that they will pay you to take it home thou. Then you can use that one for bacon and sausage like I do.

I mean when the food's done.

Congrats on the new equipment and Happy Birthday a bit late. Sounds like some great gifts to me now you have no excuse for not firing em up and creating some more great stuff.

Took care of all the thank yous. What is even more admirable is she went and got all of this in her corolla. Had the trunk tied down on the GOSM.... it was cute. My 6 year old came up stairs and woke me up apolajising for breaking the trunk :)

Figure I will heat it up burn off the mfg oils then start spraying with canola oil and get some season in it. plan to find a greasy piece of meat for the break in

Congrats that things about 90lbs, my hats off to your family.

No need for oil, you can season with a good hardwood only.

Here is a blog of some of my notes on my new big block.
