As many of you mini fans know there isn't a vortex for the mini-WSM.

I have had this in the back of my head for awhile. I picked up a 6"x28" 16 gauge sheet of steel. Not having a good way to roll the sheet into a cone I decided to keep the thing square. I layers out the four sides. I cut the sheet in half length wise. Giving me two 18" long by 3"+/- high pieces. From those I cut four sides. 8" at the bottom 5" at the top. Got out my welder and tacked everything together. When I was happy with that I welded the seems.

I won't be able to try it until the weekend. So until then here's the finished shots

Nice job Case! ... or should I say Mr. Mini

Nothing special with the cylindrical shape the whole concept is just concentrating the heat so  the square will work just as well.  I'll give it a thumbs up!

Yep should be interesting to see how good it works. I'm going to have to wait a few days though. Other junk going on.

When I seen the title, I just knew it had to you Case, so I had to check it out. Most new methods or innovations for the mini are usually your brainchild after all.

Yep it's me again! Messing with a perfectly good smoker!

Gonna have to teach myself how to weld, I guess. Looks like I'm missing out on too much fun! Nice looking homemade vortex, dirt sailor...I like it!

It's not that difficult. I never wanted to learn until a few years ago. All I wanted to do was work with wood. My dad was a journeyman electrician and a master welder. Didn't want anything tondo with the metal shop! Kick myself for not trying when I was younger.

Despite what everyone says about the cheap harbor freight 90 amp flux wire welder it does everything I want to do.

Nice work case.  Isn't it fun having a welder on stanby?   Have one out in my shop next to where my smokers live.  I can weld and smoke my fish at the same time.  I restored two vintage Mustangs and my 50 chebbie truck with the help of that welder.  Self taught.  Glad I did it.  Have made various accessories or modifications to all my smokers with help of Mr. Miggy.

Yeah it's fun stuff! The metal art I've made has made my wife and family members very happy. Then there's the stuff I've made for myself. My welds are getting better, maybe one of the

I was going to fire this up tonight, but now the wife says that we are going to a concert... Guess I will have to give it a spin tomorrow, unless SWMBO comes up with some other BBQ blocking plans.

Old thread i know, but i just had a random idea ... for a quick and simple booster could you take an 8" stainless steel dog bowl and cut the bottom out ?

I may have to try this...  (i'll post pictures etc if i do)

Yes you can. The only problem is it won't last long. The thin metal will burn out due to the high temps. I used a smaller stainless dog dish as an ash deflector in my original mini-wsm before I put the side vents in. It lasted about a year then disintegrated.
