The brisket at $1.97US has been working on me for the last coupla months. It's still on but I've got too much smoked brisket in the freezer to make room for any more (according to 'er indoors). Today it was pork butt (boston butt) for a buck a pound. I only bought 2 for about $20US, but I'm getting flak because there's about 10 pound of cooked and shrink-wrapped pulled pork in the freezer.

I need an intervention! (Not for me but for her!)

It's hard to pass up a good deal.. I get it.

You kinda need to look at it like the price of gas.. You can only bank so much of it.

I'm only two states away with cattle and hogs and I don't see those prices. If I did, I'd be in your boat.

I just a load of vac bags from VSU so I'll be off to the races when the weather cools down. Can't wait for some bacon, wish BBB was a buck a lb.

Just throw a couple parties clean out the freezer and get back to it!
A buck a pound lots of tasty ways to eat pork till you get sick of it at least.

Rabbit,

I have the exact same problem. I am not exaggerating when I say I have been smoking a brisket every other weekend. My wife gave up trying curb my brisket enthusiasm, but when I go to one of 3 local HEB's I always see a couple of Choice briskys in the $1.97/lb end cap, I can't resist. Hell a few weeks back they were like $1.69-lb.

It's hard to pass up a ~$23 choice brisket.

On the "off" weekends I do ribs or the aforementioned $1or $2-lb butt. It's tough living in Texas, smoking and eating heroic amounts of red meat for trivial amounts of money, but somebody has to do it.

Hmmmmmm........I wonder what chicken would taste like on the smoker? Maybe one day I'll find out.

P.S. I have a coronary stent on layaway C'est la vie!

That is one thing I do miss about Texas. Just being able to walk into HEB and pick up s brisket without a second thought. Here in Mississippi beef is ridiculous and brisckets are hard to find. I weep for our friends in the North with the prices they have to pay. Left coast too!

Whole chickens are great on the smoker. This whole forum should probably try to set up some 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 stent packages. It'll be fun till the arteries blow though.

HEB in New Braunfels has the same deal....pretty good looking meat too. You can fold 'em in half.  I got a cookoff this weekend so it fits my budget well.

maybe make ribeye hamburgers ,,,joking, Al.

Not really a joke!

I usually buy a whole ribeye, & a whole beef tenderloin at the same time.

I trim them both up & cut each into 2" thick steaks & freeze them.

But I take all the trimmings from both & run them through the grinder for burgers.

You can't beat ribeye/filet minion burgers.

Oh, and still less than $9 lb.

I'm

Ha! If I was a cardiologist I would consider being a sponsor here!

But seriously, I'm fortunate that my cholesterol is not bad. Genetics.

Oh, I have done chicken. For my wife. I take a few bites sometimes. Makes a good pallete cleanser for brisket.
