I want to do the mailbox mod as I cant seem to keep my AMNPS lit inside the chamber on the lower left of the MES.  However, is it necessary to remove the inner chip tray/cover, etc?  I have concerns about drippings falling on the heating element and catching fire inside the box.  I only really need to use the AMNPS for cold smoking, so my other thought was simply not latching the door tightly on the MES so there is more air flow.  Thoughts?

Raise the AMNPS up off the bottom it will get more air.I used Binder clips from Staples they work great,in the smoker or the mail box.

Have you tried the way I've been recommending for Gen #2 ?

Remove the little water pan from the slanted Drip Plate (Don't need it anyway).

Then put the AMNPS over the hole left by removing the water pan (This way air will flow through the hole & around the AMNPS).

You can put a disposable foil pan on the floor under the hole to catch any drips.
