For a Christmas gift last year, I received a Weber Jumbo Joe (18") Grill and a table to go with it. On occasions, I have thought about putting a thermometer on it, and I was wondering where the best place would be for it.

I am thinking of one of four options:

1. Take out the screw for the vent and put the thermometer there.

2. On the top of the lid.

3. On the side of the lid.

4. Leave well enough alone.

If anyone can help me, let me know.

Hello.  Unless you are planning to buy a good quality therm I would not bother.  I would use something like a good stand alone dual probe therm.  If you do plan to splash out on a good lid therm; put it at grill height.  That would also mean drilling through the coating on the Weber, meaning it will probably crack beyond the drill point and start rusting.  Am I saying I don't think it is a good idea?  YES!  But I have been wrong many times before.  I would not do it.  Keep Smokin!

Okay. Thanks for the advice. I have 2 Char-Broil thermostats (one 1 1/2", the other 3"). I guess I could always use them as replacement the monitors from my brother-in-law's Grill and for another smoke or if I should buy one. I was thinking about replacing the screw in the vent damper on the top and place it there. I will look for either the digital one that you recommend or continue to use an analog magnetic thermometer that are currently use. It is one that has a spring in the middle and can lift off with a spatula I will look for either the digital one that you recommend or continue to use an analog magnetic thermometer that are currently use.
