Corn Fed Ohio Boy here...but I did live outside Austin Texas ( Good peeps in Texas!) so I know what good barbecue actually should taste like.

Went to the Salt Lick, eh OK, but the best I had there was in some basement "restaurant" with cracked linoleum tiles, peeling walls, velvet Elvis paintings, styrofoam plates, plastic forks/knives and the Best Damn Brisket  in Tejas.

Anyway, just finished my UDS last week and so far made my own rub, pretty darn good, BBQ sauce, meh..., and have smoked ribs, pretty darn good, spatchcocked a chicken, yum and even roasted some almonds-very popuar here....soon I'm going to try some smoked cheeses ( before it gets too warm).

Found some great info, advice and esp members here...Big Thanks to all!

Next up going for the holy grail..a brisket!
