My wife wanted to send me to a cooking class for Valentines day, and found a BBQ school to send me to but it was expensive ($199 to $249) and my smoker at the time was kinda sucky.  So she attempted to sign me up for a Sushi and Saki class for $40, but they have to build a roster of students before they have the class, and that hasn't happened yet.

Yesterday, after my boss ruined my evening, without knowledge that my boss ruined my evening yet, my wife came into the bedroom with her laptop to show me the class she wanted to sign me up for.

Here is the "class syllabus":
What You’ll Learn
  • Award-winning techniques for barbecuing
    • brisket with au jus
    • competition style ribs
    • sweet and juicy pulled pork
    • tender, applewood smoked chicken
    • elegant spatchcock chicken
    • fancy pork loin
    • and things we feel like cooking
  • Recipes and methods for
    • sauces
    • rubs
    • brines
    • marinades
    • injections
  • Tools, food safety, pit control
  • Gourmet BBQ sides & desserts
  • And a whole lot more!
The class starts at 0800 and you cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner on smokers.  You can either BYOB or buy beer from them and hang out all day, drink beer, and cook good food.  And at the end of the day, around 1800, you have a guest join you for a dinner of all of the foods you made during the day.  I'm really excited about this!  I know I could save $200 (a buddy is joining me so we each got discounted enrollment) by learning from the vast knowledge here on this forum and on youtube.  But this class should really shortcut my knowledge base to a higher level.

That sounds like fun. $200 is not bad as some are 3X's that...JJ

Look at it this way, the hands on experience you get will be great as you can see first hand how things are done in real time. Also cost is relative. Lets say you go to class taught by some big competitors and you would be looking at $395 for a class by Harry Soo of Slap Yo Daddy or $795 for 3 days at Myron Mixon's classes...and of course that would not include your travel etc. I say let the wife direct you on this and go have some fun with the class, it sounds pretty cool.

Can't wait for mine to send me. She did send to me to the Masters in May BBQ comp that was happening here while we were in the midst of moving.

Got this from it and met Rod Gray who got the green chef jacket.
