Since I really don't have a covered porch or patio near my shop to run my electric smokers in the rain I have to plan well in advance when I can smoke fish according to what the weather geeks are forecasting.

Of course I chose this weekend to try out the newest member of my smoker family, the MES40 gen 1. Since I needed to work out in my shop which is next to my smoking storage shed, why not plumb a temporary vent from my shop. Something I can easily tear down in a couple minutes and store away in the shed.

So far so good.

Cmayna,  That is a great Idea except for one item I think you will find. The smoke as it cools will condensate and form creosote. You will need to put a short straight run after the first 90 and put a weep hole in it to drain the run off. That is a very clean job.  Does the height of the pipe cause more draft and burn your pellets faster?  it looks like your smoke is venting at a great rate. You should be happy with your work.  Jted

I've seen a mod with a flared water heater finishing collar over the Mes top vent to catch as much smoke as possible without creating a draft through the smoker and allowing probe cables in.  If the first elbow fits into the straight pipe maybe the condensation will leak out of that joint onto the outside of the elbow.

Yes, halfway through the smoke I saw condensation seep through the vent elbows, etc, so I opened up the bottom side of the vent in a couple areas to allow drip to escape. Need to tweak this more before next smoke using a stack. Then again if the weather gods are nice to me, I'll just smoke as normal without a vent.
