I was at Sam's last weekend and saw some pretty good deals on meat. Decent briskets too.

Pork butts $0.99/lb at Fareway. I just looked at the ad for last week and today is the last day for the prices listed in the ad. Not the best price I have bought them at but pretty good compared to what I have seen lately. Just thought I would share in case anyone wants to snag some before the price goes back up.

That's a pretty good deal you've gotten them cheaper than that?
Yeah, not as much as I thought though. I went back and looked and I got some for $0.88/lb when Hy-Vee had them on sale this past summer. For some reason I though I got them for even cheaper.

Well I went out to Fareway last night before the deals expired. 85/15 ground beef was $2.99/lb for the 10lb tubes, grabbed one. Also I wanted to get about 10lbs of Boston Butts for pulled pork, ground pork, and BBC.

My brother got some yesterday morning and said he got 3 that were about 4lbs each. When I got them on sale at Hy-vee they were about 7lbs each. This was my experience last night:

"How much would you like?"

"How big are they?"

"About 14 pounds."

"Uhhhh, is that like a whole one or something?"

"Yup, you'll need something pretty big to cook the whole thing in. You still want one?"

"Umm, yeah I'll take one."

He gave me a 16lb one....oh well. Only reason I was getting 10lbs is because my wife said to. The more the merrier!

Anyone else take advantage of the pricing?

I got a couple of the small boston butts... found out from my brother, if you want larger than a 3lb one they have in the display case, you have to specifically ask for it out of the back.... The deal is still on today(atleast in my fareway).  I may go back and get a couple 8-10lb ones.

Interesting, when I got mine they didn't have any in the display case. Maybe that is because they only had jumbo ones left so they were all in the back cooler. lol

Turns out that "16 lb" butt was really a cryo pack of 2. I cut one up for country style boneless ribs and smoked the other for pulled pork on Christmas Eve for Christmas at our house on Christmas Day. Weather was pretty nice when I started but the snow started to pile up as the smoke went on. Did some ABT's also. Good results, but had to finish in the oven.

Anyone finding good deals on meat lately?

Sam's Club has whole pork loins for $1.68 per pound
That's better than what I saw at Hy-Vee, think it was $1.89 per pound. Also better than Fareway, in their 2 day sale ad for Friday and Saturday they are $1.79 per pound, limit of 2.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Fareway has chicken hindquarters for $0.39/lb 10 lb max, pork sausage for $1.99/lb 20 lb max, and 85/15 ground beef for $2.99/lb 20 lb max.

Hy-Vee has whole chickens for $0.99/lb.

Just saw these prices in today's ads for each store. Thought I would share in case anyone was interested.

Hey everyone, I am looking to do a brisket for the first time. An recommendations on what type, how big, where to buy, and process would be greatly appreciated, thanks! My smoker is an E-ECB.
