Yeah, not as much as I thought though. I went back and looked and I got some for $0.88/lb when Hy-Vee had them on sale this past summer. For some reason I though I got them for even cheaper. That's a pretty good deal you've gotten them cheaper than that?
I got a couple of the small boston butts... found out from my brother, if you want larger than a 3lb one they have in the display case, you have to specifically ask for it out of the back.... The deal is still on today(atleast in my fareway). I may go back and get a couple 8-10lb ones.
Well I went out to Fareway last night before the deals expired. 85/15 ground beef was $2.99/lb for the 10lb tubes, grabbed one. Also I wanted to get about 10lbs of Boston Butts for pulled pork, ground pork, and BBC.
My brother got some yesterday morning and said he got 3 that were about 4lbs each. When I got them on sale at Hy-vee they were about 7lbs each. This was my experience last night:
"How much would you like?"
"How big are they?"
"About 14 pounds."
"Uhhhh, is that like a whole one or something?"
"Yup, you'll need something pretty big to cook the whole thing in. You still want one?"
"Umm, yeah I'll take one."
He gave me a 16lb one....oh well. Only reason I was getting 10lbs is because my wife said to. The more the merrier!
Anyone else take advantage of the pricing?
Interesting, when I got mine they didn't have any in the display case. Maybe that is because they only had jumbo ones left so they were all in the back cooler. lol

Turns out that "16 lb" butt was really a cryo pack of 2. I cut one up for country style boneless ribs and smoked the other for pulled pork on Christmas Eve for Christmas at our house on Christmas Day. Weather was pretty nice when I started but the snow started to pile up as the smoke went on. Did some ABT's also. Good results, but had to finish in the oven.

That's better than what I saw at Hy-Vee, think it was $1.89 per pound. Also better than Fareway, in their 2 day sale ad for Friday and Saturday they are $1.79 per pound, limit of 2.Sam's Club has whole pork loins for $1.68 per pound
Thank you very much for the info! I will have to look at Sam's when i am their next. How is the quality of the Sam's ones compared to Fareway? They have whole packers at Sam's for 2.50 lb that's the cheapest I've found they were on sale at fareway couple weeks ago for 2.99 lb the one I bought at fareway was 13 lbs I covered it in meatheads big bad beef rub after I trimmed it and injected it with beef broth threw it on at 225° for about 12 hrs hit the stall at 154° wrapped it in foil twice threw in some apple juice and Worcester put it back on the smoker for another 3 hours got hungry couldn't wait any longer finished it in the oven at 203°pulled it wrapped it in a towel put it in the cooler for an hour made some Texas mop sauce pulled it out sliced it up and it was amazing!
