I've been having a good time making some homemade powders using a dehydrator.  Ginger powder, chipotle, now garlic and onion.  I have a bunch of tomatos and thought tomato powder might make an interesting addition to a rib rub.  Has anyone tried this?  What do you think, would this be good or not?

Glad you brought this up.  Looking to mix a rub for tomorrow and I think I'l use some of the tomato powder I made!

I've never made it....  Bride buys and uses it....   I think you might have to peel and remove the seeds....   dry the pulp and your home free...

How do you guys / gals make tomato powder ????

Yes, I remove seed and skin. Pure tomato goodness.

If drying, then grinding, why remove the seeds and the skin?

I have done both methods when drying and grinding tomatoes for powder and haven't noticed any difference...

Guess I like the KISS method. Keep It Simple Smoker!

I do wonder though, has anybody tried smoking the tomatoes, before drying, or smoked them until they were dry, either way?
i think that would add a a new dimension of flavour to the dishes you make with the powder.

I've cold smoked tomatoes for salad before.
Another option would be to dry and grind the tomato then smoke the powder.
