I live up in the hills where it can get extremely windy during the summer months.  Do you have any suggestions on how to light the AMNPS without the flame blowing out too quickly?  I've been using a propane torch and keeping on it for about 45 seconds but the flame keeps blowing out and I keep having to relight.  There does seem to be a bed of white pellets though, kind of like charcoal that has been lit.

I'm in the same boat. I move mine into a sheltered space in the garage and light it there, far away from anything combustible (pull the car out if I have to). I don't even blow it out - as I walk it to the smoker, it goes out on its own.

You may want to find or construct a 3-sided metal shelter box with air intake holes for yours if you can't find an indoor space to do it.

Wind????? Come to Oklahoma and you will see wind and then some. I am new to this AMNPS thing and depending if the wind is blowing in on my patio or not depends where I kight it. If not blowing on the patio, that is where I light it ... If blowing on the patio, I light it in the garage and when smoking well, I carry it to the patio where My MES is.

Haha! I sometimes can't even walk out on the street without getting blown over.  Wind can get up to 30mph around where I'm at.

Unfortunately, I don't have a real great path from my garage to patio without going through the house.  I'll have to attempt to find some time of shield.

Get a metal bucket or an old #10 can, lay it on its side and use it as a wind break.

I used my Weber Q grill as a shield. Hit it with a propane torch for a good long while and then put the lid on. Got a crest cherry ember. :)
