Hello my name is patrick. I bought my first electric smoker gen 2.5 with Bluetooth this weekend. I got it home assembled it and preseasoned it and on the day of Fourth of July in about an hour into smoking. the element went out. I had to take it back and replace it. I finished my grilling on the charcoal grill. Planning on trying it again next weekend. I have a few questions:

Do I just go ahead and upgrade to the amznps?

Will airflow be an issue in this model?

Hello! And I was about to post the exact same question about just going ahead and purchasing the amps with my new MES 30in.  From what I have read sounds like a good investment although have seen some posters having issues with the pellets staying lit.

Welcome to the boards.

Bummer about the element. I have a Gen 1 Masterbuilt that I really like. As for the AMNPS, I can't say, as I don't use one. I burn the chips it calls for & don't mind having to add them every 40 mins or so. People who use them swear by them, but I like keeping it as simple as possible. 

As for airflow, I've had no "issues".

The AMPS is genius, but there is a steep learning curve to get it lit.  I highly recommend it.

I'll be curious to see how it turns out. I went ahead and bought the amps. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.

Guys, I use a straight offset stick burner and I never have any electrical problems. The elements don't burn out, the power doesn't go out or anything else, I just put a stick of wood in every once in a while and enjoy playing with fire, very relaxing.

Decided to brine my chicken with a simple recipe I found so Im going to leave it in there overnight and smoke tomorrow. I'm doing my bologna now. One question I have, Is the actual smoking time the same as the cooking time? Do I keep adding chips for the entire 3 hours if the smoke stops?

I brine my chicken overnight, rubbed it and put it in the smoker at 7pm. It's been in there for 2.5 hours and my internal meat temp is 165. How much longer do I keep it in there? I've been smoking at 275 the entire time.
