Not bad.  When you get to making your own rubs and sauce then you know you have arrived.  I only use my OWN rubs

Sometimes I make my own rubs and sauces and that is fun but nothing wrong with using the commercial stuff as well. A lot of the competitive BBQers use commercial rubs and sauces exclusively in competitions because they can be amazing. For the rubs, they can have 10 different chili powders etc in them that give incredible complexity to the flavor. You can go broke trying to replicate some of these. That said simple can be great too. All personal preference.

Yeah if I have a whole Saturday to tinker then I'm all for making my own stuff.  But I know I will use my smoker a lot more if I keep it simple.  I may even be able to get my wife to cook up a smoke during weekdays so that I have a meal fit for a king when I get home from work :))  But I know her, she'll only do it if it's real simple.  I'm going to find commercial rubs & sauces that are great to get me going.  Please keep the ideas coming.  What other sauces do you guys like?
