No matter how careful I am when lifting the charcoal basket I always manage to lose quite a bit of the ash from the basket. Bottom of the drum has a fair amount of crap. Don't want to just turn the drum over...don't want to have ash all over the nicely seasoned sides. Suppose a shop vac is the only option?

I use a shop vac on my pellet grill once cooled and works awesome besides the gf yelling cause she wanted to use it to vacuum the rugs in her car...

I should have done this so I had something with a bit of a lip.
Yep, the 2" lip on the pizza pan that I use keeps everything nice and clean. The only downside to the lip is it makes it harder to scrape the grease out of the pan.

I cut the bottom off an old propane tank. Works like a charm. I also have an eye bolt and a hook to lift it out with.
I knew I shouldn't have blasted my old tank with the 50bmg. Was kinda cool, set one of my steel plates up, cracked the valve on the tank....had a buddy hit the plate which started the tank burnig...nailed it with the 50....gigantic fireball....good times...
