I know several who use the mailbox mods on their smokers. My question is, most cheap metal mailboxes are just painted galvanized steel. Isn't anyone worried about the galvanized?

Mine is steel. No worries here.HD carries them and they are around $25.

I'm not sure if mine is galvanized or not - it's from Lowes and the material listed is 'metal'  :)

But the mailbox never gets above 200F, so I don't think there is any worry.

That's the ones I looked at, the 2 inexpensive metal mailboxes both say galvanized steel. It may not get hot enough, just not sure it's worth the risk to me.

The AMNPS doesn't put out that much heat. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you plan on burning coals or sticks inside.
