Hey guys,

Looking for a decent cut of meat that I can smoke.. I need something other than brisket! Cheaper too! Thanks.

Pork shoulders are about as cheap as it gets at $1.50 per lb. You can also get whole chickens around $1.50 per lb.

You could try a chuck roast. Don't know where you are located but around here the chuck roasts are usually less expensive than brisket. I have done a number of them and they always turn out well.

I vote for some tri tip, usually not too expensive and it's a quick and easy smoke.
Is that the same as a sirloin tip roast?

Local butcher had 8-11 lb angus boneless roasts for $3.99lb.  They were still in the cryo vac packs so will hold well.

Wasn't sure how well it would smoke since it didn't seem to have much fat running through it to keep it tender.

Thoughts?
