If I get the the new MES 40 Bluetooth, would it be possible to switch the door to a non-windowed door?  What do the hinges look like?  I havent called Masterbuilt to see if they could sell me a standalone non-windowed door, but I was curious to hear how easy it would be (re: the hinges).  Thanks.

Ok just wondering. I have a 40 MES with the window. I like being able to see in. Cleaning is easy hot water and mister clean magic eraser takes less than 60 seconds. I have a hard time not peeking and the window solves my problem lol.

why not just buy this instead? No need to make things difficult.

The Sams model comes with legs, a 3 year warranty and costs $40 less.  A no brainer.  If it came without a window, it would be perfect.  Can you check your hinges?  Do you think it would be easy to switch out the door?

Lack of utility, cleaning, energy loss, toddlers etc.
Energy loss is negligable. The glass doors are built pretty well and don't get that hot during operation.

Also, the cost to buy a replacement door (If you can even find one) would most likely be more than the energy cost.

As for the cleaning, if you don't want the window you don't have to clean it. It will cover over with build up just like the non window door does. After 2 or 3 smokes it will be blacked out.

I have never tried to hold my hand on it but it definitely does not get as hot as the smoker itself is.

I have said it before and I will say it again. When the smoker is still hot the glass cleans in 15 seconds with a wet paper towel. No scrubbing or chemicals required! If you let it cool off and dry, then a magic eraser will clean it in 60 seconds without any chemicals. (or if you don't care about the glass then don't clean it. Problem solved).

Good to know thanks.  I did not think about this being a "Cabelas" product.  Did you confirm this smoker is classified as a Cabelas product and not a Masterbuilt product?  Both brands are on the door.

It does not matter in the case of the 90 day deal, as that applies to everything. But, I would say since it says cabela's on the door..... well, you can make your own assumptions but I would say it is. I have returned stuff years after I bought it and they normally stand behind everything they sell. Not only that but masterbuilt seems to take care of their customers for long after the actual manufacturer warranty is up.

We spoke of energy loss due to the window.Today I set my MES 40 with window to 275 max temp and I could hold my hand on it all day. Energy loss is not a issue.

It seems heat loss through the glass is an internet meme. Looks, cleaning would be my influences. Cleaning doesn't sound like it's an issue. I'm not saying you don't get some loss out of it. But is it really a problem or a perceived problem? Heat goes out the exhaust vent after all right? Anyone concerned there? No.

So what if the heat element cycles X times per 8 hour smoke and with the glass it cycles X+1 times? Really?

My point is I've seen this issue brought up many times and as a person shopping for a MES it confuses the real issues normally used in the decision making process.
