Hi, I just got into this and I purchased the Maverick ET-732 and I did the BOIL test and it stopped at 214F. I did some research and based on my location it should have stopped at 210F. My elevation above sea level is 800 and the barometer is 29.92..

Am I over reacting or do I need to have the unit replaced?

You may be overreacting. Within 2 or 3 degrees should be fine. Just keep them in mind when reading it when a few degrees matter.

Thanks! Doing a trial run tonight to learn how to keep my smoker at 250F. I'll keep the 4F variance in mind.

Can't seem to handle the temp, I'm in the low 300s after 30min. I closed off two of the tree valves and nearly 75% of the final ball valve is closed and I'm rising slowly still. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Any tips for keeping the temp down? I did do the Minion method for the coals and I closed all the vents and I'm still at 306F.

If you got it locally keep returning it till you have no concerns. Most people order it so don't want the hassle of returning it and have to justify why they should keep it. I have no concerns about any of the therms I have or I would return it because it would drive me nuts. I'm going to start a new thread on how the meat thermometer forum is fueled by ET-732 and 733 owners that are concerned, dissatisfied and confused. Threads on other phenomenal therms in this forum barely have comments. I think there is a degree of biasness since Jeff plugs the ET-732 and Todd sells ET-732 and 733. No news is good news. No one says hey just got this new Mav it does everything the manual says. I'm not trying to piss anyone off but I am trying to help others get acknowledged for their time and effort.

Well I ended up returning it because the wireless range is awful, I couldn't get more than 30ft away before it dropped off. So I bought the ET-733 instead
