Hi, I'm Denise, or CountryBug. I'm from Pembroke, GA -- just a hole in the wall when it comes to comparing city sizes! lol I am a noob when it comes to smoking meat. Dad used to smoke the best pork shoulders and Mom learned how to smoke roasts. (She's a baker, not a grilling type person. ;) ) I haven't purchased a smoker yet, and I'm looking into building my own. I've been watching a ton of YT videos, so as soon as the rain stops, I can hopefully, start smoking my own meat. I'm looking forward to learning from you more expert smoking guys and gals!

Welcome CountryBug! :welcome:
If you're interested in building a smoker, check out BDSkelly's mini WSM build (there are many out there, but I quote his because I found his to be the most efficient. That's why I copied it). The mini is very inexpensive and easy to use. It's an awesome starter/backyard smoker.

Thanks, RMMurray! I just popped over to YT to check it out. Thanks so much for the tip. The builds are super simple! I may get to build a smoker a lot sooner.

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from a nice sunny and warm day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Gary

Here is the one I built. The Smokey Joe Gold was cheapest on Amazon ($35) and the IMUSA pot was cheapest at walmart.com site to store ($21). Instead of the clay pot (read the threads, not many people use them anymore) I used a 10" sauté pan ($5) at Walmart.

Here is the link to Brian's build that I copied

Our Walmart has the pots for $21, but I'm going to have to order the grill unless I can find one at the local shops. The online shopper didn't have it listed as local, but things don't always come up. I have the saute pan, so I'm good on that. Now, I just have to buy the drill and bits. lol

Ha, you'll need a jigsaw too! It's a really fun build. Search the thread for builds. Make sure you learn the "lid mod", the charcoal basket and "crimping" the pot. It's all here and there are tons of them out there with lots of proud owners willing to help. Make sure you choose the Smokey Joe Gold over the silver. Pay the few bucks more and avoid having to modify the grill. Best of luck.

LOL I have to buy the jigsaw for another project, so that's on the list! I was drooling over the double stacks over on the Misi-WSM photo request for mini builds, but I had to stop when I saw the 4-high tower...Too much!  Actually, I think I'm just jealous, because that was awesome! lol Thanks for the advice!

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.

David,
Hi David,

Thanks for the welcome, and the tip! I will definitely be using that search bar - most likely for "what to smoke first," and all the recipes. lol I used to make beef jerky in a dehydrator years ago for my son. I'm looking forward to making him a batch or two that's been smoked.

Welshrarebit, I love it! Now I have to go out and get a second IMUSA pot to build this. Thanks for making me spend more money on something I don't need. No wait, I definitely need this!
