My wife tells me today that she noticed some tamale pots at one of my local store. She didn't check the sizes so I happen to be in the area this afternoon and stop in to check...

They have five different sizes: smallest is 20 qt and biggest is 54 qt (52 qt?). Sure enough there's a 32 and a 40 qt size in stock as well.

My wife already let slip that she got me two 32qt imusa pots from target.com for Christmas...

So, I won't be getting any more but it another possible candidate for a mini build.

Edit: I might pick it up and build a mini for my BIL for Christmas...

It's an imusa type pot with the metal handles and the lid handle riveted on.

Yikes! $67 bucks???   Is that a pro grade?  Hey my friend I know things are expensive on the island but clearly you are shopping in the tourist area.  Brian

Does it have a 3-4 bone prime rib in it???? You should've run down to the Malama Market in Pahoa and seen if they had any on clearance!

That's my local ace hardware store! I was going in for cattle feed, it's the only store here that sells feed, and noticed the pots. We haven't had a drop of rain in two months; it's been sunny and beautiful Everyday! Great for the tourist, bad for the cows...

The first pot is in KTA and is $32. Yeah, doesn't look good for Malama Market! They have webcams set up so the world can watch it's last stand live. Google hvo maps and there be a link for the webcam...

$32 isn't terrible, especially if it fits. I think the first Vasconia I bought was $29.

I follow Hawaii news so have been tracking the lava flow. When we were cutting Ohia down there I'd buy groceries there. It's a fun little town and I feel bad for those who are being displaced.

I built my mini WSM with that exact same pot.  All I had to do was compress the rolled lip a little tighter against the side of the pot and it fits so snug that I don't have any smoke leaks.  Thing is rock steady on temps.  I am so used to just reading the charcoal smoker section, I didn't even realize there was a mini WSM page until recently.  My build is at the link below.

I thought I'd throw in a sunset pic from Waikiki beach:

And a pic of some wild hogs on the side of the road near Waipahu...

You're making me feel lonesome....

Hopefully you bought all of them!

I didn't buy any... Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone in our capital city! I didn't get to the Don Quiote by ala moana so I don't know if all of them stock these pots. I was actually cutting thru the one out by pearl city to get to the Foodland there because on the big isle Foodland carries the VMI 40 qt pots but I didn't see any at that store.

The brand was "Smart Cook" and is an Imusa clone. There was some weber stuff a couple of aisles away and I took the grill off a smokey joe and it fit perfect! I wouldn't be surprised if all of these pots are made on the same factory in China and then branded by different companies here.

BTW Case, Malama market reopened last week! I forget what thread it was about you saying to get a tamale pot from them when they had their close out sale; they actually might have had some because they are part of the Foodland chain and every one I been in here has them,

I saw that, I follow Hawaii News online! That's good for the community down there, had to be a huge inconvienence for the community and a financial conundrum for the employees.

My wife and I just committed to a several week vacation next year in your neck of the woods. We'll probably bounce around to a few different locations on the big island. we'll start looking for vacation houses soon.

I have a friend who has a vacation house up kaloko drive. He smokes on an acorn and has TONS of kiawe wood!

I'll let you borrow a mini if you want.

I'll send a PM tonite after I get home from work...
