Welcome to the group. But with all due respect smoking meat is not a trend it is a long standing practice all around the world.

Welcome, glad ya joined us... MES 30 is a great smoker for new or old TBS heads ! Yours a Gen 1 ?

Thanks for the link to that ill have to check it out. I searched all the reviews for both mes 30 and mes 40. And went with the 30 for now being first smoker. I seen alot of reviews on the 40 that said the heating elemwnt wasnt big enough and never produced enough smoke for people. So i just went with the 30. But i went wrong with getting all chips need to run back and get some pellets to use in the cold smoke tray totally slipped my mind. Was in to big of a hurry to get back and get it running. But not sure what gen it is i just bought tonight new at fleet farm. How do you tell the gen? And what are the differences or perks between the different gens?

Also is there any good thermometers for a decent price? I thought i read somewhere that the mes 30 comes with dual thermometers. 1 for box temp other for meat??? But i didnt see em when i went thru everything???

The MES 30 comes with a built in therm (look in the back of the smoker kinda towards the mid-top & you'll see a small therm probe sticking out ) that works off the controller (lcd unit) on the back ! However, the Gen 1 MES being the one to have so to speak, this therm is highly inaccurate... Meaning the temp shown on the controller can differ a bunch from the actual temp..., in fact... It can be off by 30+ degrees... I personally have a Maverick ET-732 dual therm & an igrill2, both of which you can track smoker chamber temp as well as meat IT !

Welcome, I also have an MES 30 and i am very happy with it, I have the AMPNS also but havent used it . I only started smoking end of last summer and I have really enjoyed it, even during this cold winter I have smoked quite a bit of meat in my MES30.
