Noticed this on the first round and now the second. Getting brass shavings from the bearng at the top of the gear. Yes it is lubed. The shavings are falling down onto the plunger and probably into the bucket.
Dirt..... What have you found out about stuffer..... Dave
I agree... That shouldn't happen. More than likely the washer on top of the gear needs to be replaced as its now grooved. Remove the gear and polish the top of the gear and the bottom of the stuffer body and replace the washer with a new one. Check for sharp edges at the bore of the holes and chamfer if possible you must be stuffing a lot of sticks

Awwww...... the old wait and see if it fixes itself approach.
I would approach LEM and see what they say and reference the picture. Most manufacturers want happy customers, especially when they have such a large following of friends making sausage. Although I wouldn't put it off too long.
I've been using PAM on the O ring and food grade lube on the gear area. We will be stuffing some summer sausage again tomorrow to make up for the wasted batch. I will see how bad the shavings are when we do that batch. If it's still bad then I will contact LEM.
DS, I had the same but not that much, Yes I was P Oed also, only did it one time so must have been a small burr, I did not lube that time around eitherMake sure you lube that red rubber gasket around the plunger(besides the gears), helps like you would not know, if you do not have food grade grease, spray your fingers with Pam, and lube that gasket, I don't spry the whole thing cause I done want pam everywhere, and do this ever 2-3 fillings of the stuffer.
Good luck.
