I'm not a happy little camper at the moment.

I brought a cabinet smoker a little while back and decided to put it together yesterday as I had found a couple of spare minutes in my busy schedule.

Upon opening the box and unpacking the bits and pieces I discovered that there were dints in my new cooker and the more I unwrapped the more dints appeared. To add insult to injury the cabinet turned out to be one of the lightest gauge materials I've ever see

n. Insulation? what is that?, I'm going to have to totally insulate the whole thing seeing how thin it is.

The attached photo is an almost exact copy of what I brought except for it being a single door.

I will attempt to use it once or twice and if I have no success I will remove the gas burner and racks and use them in another cooker which will be home made.

Did I tell you I wasn't happy?.
 
I feel your pain! I would take it back now and get something else. I can tell you your not going to be happy with it. They will take it back because of the dents. Spend a little time in the review section.

You could always get a Weber kettle or the likes to get you going. Then you could build a smoker that you like. Everyone needs a kettle regardless ow what other smokers they have.

I've never heard of a Hark before. Where did you buy it? If it was a big box retailer I would take it back. I've owned an inexpensive smoker... You'll do nothing but be aggravated. You should enjoy your cooks.. Thats what it is all about right? 

David is correct that we have a great database right here of folks that wrote reviews on smokers. You don't have to have a blow torch or a lot of money to own a solid unit.  But scrape that one off the bottom of your shoe and find another.  You work too hard to wreak your weekends. B

Most of all the cabinet style propane smokers are made from light gaugr metal. My GOSM (great outdoor smokey mountain) is extremely light weight too. It has though made some awesome BBQ. There isn't any one perfect smoker in my opinion. They all have benefits and they all have issues. I smoke year round and have used that smoker in -10 degree weather. No problems keeping the temps where I needed them. No insulation. Burns more fuel but so do my other smokers when it's cold. Winds a bigger killer and I'd be more worried about keeping it protected from wind than insulated. If you feel the need go to harbor freight and buy a welding blanket to wrap around it. Less than $10. Just don't block your air intakes or the exhaust.

OMG Case! you tell me about the blanket after I buy how many smokers? J/K! I am still probably going to buy another one.

Thanks Guys, I'm hearing you all and will take your advise on board, love the welding blanket idea.

mastered the first one. I have an offset CharGriller which I haven't mastered yet so I'll give the cabinet a go and then concentrate on the offset until I can skite about my smoking.

These are made out of 3mm plate and made rather solid and I have no gripes about this baby.

Yes Gary I brought this baby awhile back and have used it three or four times already, brisket, chicken wings, whole chickens and double smoked ham. Although the results were fine I am still learning and looking forward to bacon and ham in the near future.

I hear on the grape vine that you are the master of the offset????
