Hi all,

First, I'm a complete newbie.  I know nothing about anything related to smoking meat.

I just got a used MES Digital 30" smoker from a coworker (Great guy!!!

).

Its misbehaving and he knew I love to try to tinker with all things electronic/electrical.

Found this site and can't wait to get the smoker going and learn from everyone here!!

Doug.

Hey Wolf,

Thanks for the starter info!  :)

I just finished cleaning up the smoker and tested it out.  It works fine for about a minute or so, then when it gets to a certain temperature, it trips the breaker.

My breaker is 15A and the smoker uses 6.7A (nothing else running on the same circuit).

I'm guessing my heating element has a short somewhere that overloads the breaker.  Guess I should look into hunting down a replacement heating element?

Can't wait to break out the power tools!!!

I have so much to learn!!

Looking forward to being of some help

The first thing I would do is check the wiring conectors to the eliment. MES Is notorious for loose conection causing to many amps pulled thus tripping breaker. They are also known for using the thinest cheapest wire they can get by with.
Here is a link that may help:http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/117020/mes-40-wiring-problem
Always unplug it before you mess with it, or it could be a shocking experance
