I read up a lot, and did the 3-2-1 method as close to vanilla (no tweaks) as I could.

I use the Brinkmann Electric, and it stayed right where I wanted for temperatures for the majority of the smoke.  I didn't use apple juice, just the natural juices came out when foiled.  I was really impressed.

The one thing I was pissed about, is I applied way too much rub.  I had to buy pre-rubbed pork ribs from Costco, because the standard ribs packages were too large, and expensive, for a first time test.

I truly wanted them a little more 'fall off the bone' tender, but they were still really cooked, and tender enough to enjoy.

Next time, less rub, more time in foil, lower heat maybe, in the '3' cycle.  I had it around 235° for the beginning cycle, maybe it cooked too fast or dried up a bit too much.

Anyway, enjoy the Q-View!  [▼ Link below ▼]

Tips, tricks, your own musings are welcome.  I can only get better.

Today I will be making ABTs...

Live and learn.....but sounds like a good first experience. ABT's sound great for a lazy Sunday & a cold beverage. I normally run at 250...for everything. Adding 'some' juice will probably help with the fall off the bone ribs you seek. HTH, Willie....enjoy the smokes

Practice makes perfect. Can you post the pics here? Most people won't fallow a link.

Happy smoken.

David
Hmm, yeah I suppose I can.  I don't know why anyone wouldn't follow Imgur links, its one of the easiest photo sites around, and much better layout and look than the pics attached inline, here.  But, here you go:

Subnote:  Placing my images on here, arranging them, adding descriptions, was kind of a pain in the ass, comparatively to Imgur.

So I strongly encourage you all:  Learn how to click a link to Imgur albums!  They are wonderful.  (I dont work for them, I just love their ease of operation)

HMMMMM... I, for one will not click on a link to go look at pictures somewhere else... no matter what site they are at ... If they can't be posted here then they are not worth going to look at.... JMHO .... but reading the post I thought I was going to see ribs . .. Will say that the ABT's are looking pretty good though ...

hAHA!  Woops!  That's the wrong darn album!

Fixing now...

All done.  No captions, because I already wrote them in the Imgur gallery, and it a pain here.
I understand your not wanting to click things.  But open your mind a little, its a lot easier.  JMHO.

Either way, happy smoking.

Lovely looking ribs. What did you put on them?
Thanks!  I bought them with a rub already applied, from Costco, a St Lious style they said.  Then I put a little more of the bottle of dry rub I got as Costco.

A general use, all meat, rub.   Only one they sell at Costco, I think.

Soon enough I'll be mixing my own rubs.

UPDATE:   ! ! !

I had a couple friends over this past Sunday and had already planned on doing another round of ribs.  My GF made her own rub concoction and I used the Costco premade rub.  Still too salty for my taste, and my GF's rub was freaking great.  I don't know what she used, but it was a bit spicy, and not salty at all.

Anyway, the ribs were fan-freakin-tastic!  I tweaked the cooking cycles to 2.5 / 2.5 / 1  Instead of the 3/2/1 most people do.

I also sprayed the apple juice into the foil when I wrapped them up for the second stage.

In the end they were definitely falling off the bone, better than I ever imagined, even.

Awesome second round of rib smoking.  Thanks all !

Heheh,

Those mods are great, and I am aware of them.  But.. Uhm, I have the electric Brinkmann smoker. LOL

I may be going towards the charcoal version of the smoker, simply for higher heat potential.

Thanks for your pics!

Sorry, my bad,   But I am thinking some of the mods may be helpful on an electric.   When you are smoking your rids do you spritz, also when I wrap I lay down some squeeze margarine, honey, a little brown sugar and some seasoning put the BB on that and do the same again on top of the ribs. Wrap and on the smoker, I usually only go about an hour and a half the unwrap back on the smoker, spritzing as needed.

Yeah, thats what I did this time, I spritzed with an apple juice spray bottle.  Didn't add anything else, I want to keep this as simple as possible to keep the enthusiasm going for a while.

You'll have no problem keeping the enthusiasm turning out products like that. It's really amazing, as you turn out good food your confidence climbs and your smokes will get bigger and better. And you will hit bumps in the road that will leave you scratching your head, but don't get discouraged, chalk it up to a learning experience. We all had a lot of those. And I agree with the more simple, the better. Thumbs Up
