Not sure about that inline duct fan. You may get a lot more air flow than you want.

Howdee..... Nice to meet you.

As to running an exhaust you would have to take into account the length of run, size, bends, restictions like caps or flaps. Everything will be changing your flow dymanics, which has a direct reflection on your ability to make and maintain your smoke. Believe it or not there is some engineering and design work in any smoker. Even a cardboard box with a hot plate requires a some air.

People like Dave know alot more about this, he's the go to guy for engineering and design for me.

Probably any fan that would be used would have to be a low volume unit,  I'm sure one could be found - for a price.

The best lo-tech way to check whether a fan is needed would be by checking smoke flow at the smoker and then connect the ductwork and check the flow again.  If it looks about the same, may not need a fan.  Outside air currents may also come into play.

I'd like something like that for my garage, but brick walls may make it out of the question.

My $.02 worth, but what do I know?

I know I have seen other threads on this subject. Several have done it. My MES40 lives in my shop building right in front of a window and I just put a box fan in the window to suck out the smoke. I also have a 30" range hood over it to help, but it won't do the job whenever the door has to be opened. If I open the door slowly,  with the fan running on high it will pretty much pull all the smoke out. When the door is closed the box fan handles it easily on low.

Do some searching on the subject and see what you can find. I remember reading more than one like this.
