I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a 30" digital - great price of $149 , best I have seen

I would like to add handles to the sides for movement.  I know people are putting it on casters or moving it around on a dolly, but I would need

to store it in my garage.  The only place to use it is in the back of the house.  I would need to go up a step in the garage, thru the back door and then down another step

on our screened in porch to our patio outside so I think a couple of handles would work best.

I'm wondering what are the side of the 30" digital made is of?  Looks like it's made of plastic with a stainless interior layer?  Any space between?  Are there any

electrics in the sides?

I see where someone had used a stainless sheet metal screw to put handles on but wonder if that would be strong enough for use, or if a machine screw with a large washer on the inside

would work better?

Yes really don't have much room to store it.  Garage is barely big enough for 2 cars and workbench, etc., let alone finding a spot to store the smoker.

Guess I could look into a folding one....What is the weight of a 30"?  About 50#?

Would still like to investigate installing handles as an option

You won't be able to anchor screws in the sides, it's thin 1/16"? sheet metal outside same interior and polyurethane expanding foam insulation. Maybe drill through and use large washers inside? Still I think you will get some bending and bulging.

You might be better off tying the ends of some webbing together and slip it underneath and lifting it that way with "handles" on each side?

That's what I was thinking too but I had seen where someone had used sheet metal screws.  Kind of figured it might not have held up

Well....I tried the folding hand truck but the steps that have to be crossed are just too tall for the small wheels on the dolly so I went ahead and added

handles to the sides.  The MES isn't really all that heavy and there are 4 screws on each handle and they have plenty of holding power.

Much easier to move around now and I'm not rough with is so I think it should hold up fine for my purposes.

Parrott, care to link to what kind of handles you've attached here and what type of screws you used? I will be needing to move my MES each time for use also. I have no issue bending over to pick it up because it's not very heavy, but I'm all for making life a little easier. Were you worried about hitting any electronics or did you confirm there were none of the sides?

Well, I got the background information from ElginPlowboy as he did the exact same thing.  He said he went to HD and got the handles, and when I saw them I said to myself

"Those look exactly like the handles I have on my corn hole set".  I looked at them and they were exactly the same.  Since I never use the corn hole set any longer, I took the handles off

and used them and I believe the screws originally came with the handles.

I put a washer under the screw head to take up a little space to make sure they didn't go through the internal wall.  Measured down equally on both sides so they fell between the racks in case I ever needed to put a bolt on the inside. I believe on the sides there is just insulation.  Not sure why any wiring would need to be anywhere but in the rear.

These look exactly like what I have, except mine are stainless:

Heck, I actually like those kind of better since they are black.  Maybe someday I will go get the black ones and swap them out.

*Edit*

I actually think they may be this one - I would need to measure them to confirm

I would go with the bigger handles as it looks like the screws are a bit more hefty had have more holding power.

*Edit II*

Yes, the ones I used are the longer 6.5" handles listed just above.

Just got this unit today and I also hate the lack of handles. Has anyone tried using JB Weld instead of using screws?
