So I went camping for the last 6 days and while I was out I figured I would try something in my dutch oven.

I have never used it before other than seasoning it and once for a cobbler.

So I got a nice bone in pork shoulder and rubbed it down (forgot to make a rub before I left so I had to buy one) and let it sit over night.

After heating the cookery up I put the shoulder in to brown.

I know what you are thinking but that is not going to fit in that dutch oven. Yeah your right it did not. I had to de-bone it and cut it up a bit and all but a little bit fit in. I covered it with a beer and put the lid on. we were going to be gone so I put some coal all around the bottom as well.

Just over five hours later. I could hardly get it out as it just fell apart.

I wasn't sure what to do with all of the juices so in went about 8 spuds (cut up) and a onion (also cut up). one hour nap later and it was time to eat.

Everyone really enjoyed the meal (even the kids) so I will be trying something different on the next camping trip.

Thanks for looking.

Pretty cool, figured out you weren't at scout camp when you put the beer in...LOL

DO's are so versitle, and low and slow is just built for camping because you don't want to sweat around a hot fire. Hit that sucker with some green chili's its a mexican green chili stew. Not hot, just a different flavor.

It looks really good, Thank you for sharing.

Looks really good! I love doing a big roast or a pork butt when we go hunting. Throw it in there just before leaving on the morning hunt and come back to an awesome meal (usually cold and wet). LIke Foam suggested adding in some chiles tomato, and other veggies to the meat and broth and you can have a simple stew really quick!

Looks like it turned out great from here!  A 6 day camp sounds great right about now!

Sounds like you are all set. This was really easy and came out tasty. Have fun camping and post some pictures for us.

May have to try this, going camping friday. Was talking about trying to load the smoker. I already have 2 DO's in the camper.
Jake you need a mini for camping. There are some excellent threads here about making them. Its really inexpensive too!

Here's just one, the Q-View on this one pretty good. You might also send Case a /PM : http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/messages/messages/compose/u/60581

Great Q-View and great knowldge, you can't go wrong! When you are ready.

Thanks for the mini wsm. Never read any of those yet. Had no idea what they were. I have a little smokey joe. To bad my old turkey fryer pot does not fit it. I would have built one tomorrow before heading out.

Is the pot too big or too small? If too small attaching the lid from the pot to the bottom of the pot sometimes works to make it seat better. If it's too big, a few strategically placed bolts through the bottom will keep the pot from sliding off. Make it work! Take it camping and smoke some meat!

The pot is to small. I played with sitting the lid on the bottom. May have to take a look at it again today before I pack.

I see Aldi has pork shoulder for $1.89 a pound. Headed there shortly. Getting some to smoke next weekend and most likely just going to try Dutch oven pulled pork tomorrow.

I must say the Dutch oven pulled Pork came out good. It was so moist and juicy. Nobody complained about it and I almost did not have any leftovers. I got enough for maybe two sandwiches left. Only because I put it away before every one was done eating.
