negative pressure

Had to replace old blower (same cfi) now chimney wont draw and smokes backs out of smoke gen ( smokedaddy). There is a 2" hole on bottom of smoker to help with draw but no help. The only way I can get smoke gen to draw into smoker is to crack the door. Any simple solution ideas. Thanks, kd

my guess....... the blower is hooked up backwards....

blowers running right direction. smoke gen is not linked to blower and heating element. Smoke is not being "sucked out thru the blower". But thank you for that idea !!! The aqua pump pushes smoke into smoker and neg pressure pushes it right back out thru the smoke daddy. Cant even keep fire going to keep it smoking. Gona try piping smoke up higher above heat source c if that helps. only other thing i can think of is a in line fan on chimney to get it to draw. Any oppinions? thanks. PS draws great without blower fan but that would burn heating element up

I agree, not trying to insult your intelligence by any means, but have you tried hooking it up different? I've ran into problems with rotisserie fans before, where the fan was running backwards and still had some air flow coming out just not at volume, when I switched the feeds it corrected the problem. Just because the leads are the same the manufacturer could have it wired different. Now, if you have already tried that, I'm not sure, pictures of your setup would be helpful. :biggrin:

no offence taken. As a mattermof fact it would be something I might do lol. Going to put in bigger exhaust pipe in tomorrow and see if that works. Thanks for the input

If it is a blower, it does not matter which direction the motor runs, it will still blow air, just less air if the motor runs the wrong direction.

If it is a fan, it does not matter which way the fan blade is in stalled the air still will blow the same direction. direction of air flow changes if fan motor runs the opposite direction.

Some induction motors can run in either direction randomly when it's first started.

An aqua pump injecting smoke by Venturi effect which is very weak in pressure, any interior pressure build up can easily force the smoke out backwards.

Your blower may be to strong. try taping the blower discharge a little and see what happens.

I have to block a minimum of 50% to keep smoke from backing up but i dont think smoke fills smoker rightseems like smoke lingers in bottom of smoker.

Looks like a solenoid operated vent valve? Can be the problem if it is stuck.

That blower is too powerful. No way the smoker can have the power to inject smoke.

chimney is 4". The box on the chimney is for a duct fan I installed after this problem started. It helps but didnt solve the problem. I agree that the blower is 2 powerful. heres my problem. The heat system was bought from sausage maker. it came with a 120v 60 cfm blower. In about 5 months heat element went tits up. After asking some questions was told by S M the element was getting too hot must be prob with blower. The new blower they use is a 240 v 60 cfm, I know v means squat cfm is whats important. Anyway this new blower is like a huricane compared to the original blower (same cfm) leading me to beleive the original blower never did work properly, but my smoker worked great. So the problem, use the old blower and replace element every few months,use the new blower(the 1 S M says to use) leaving the door ajar so the daddy draws and die from black lung or smoke inhilation, Or find a fix using the new blower and saving 70.00 every few months. Gona cut 6" hole for chimney hopefully tomorrow. Im thinkn that has to work?

Not sure why you need a blower for an electric smoker, I don't think you need a fan either in the chimney.

The heat alone will help circulate the smoke up the chimney.

PigNOut,Nice looking smoking set up you got there! I have a question for you regarding your smoker. I have a stainless steel traulsen cabinet like yours and I wish to make it into a smoker. I am wondering how are you cutting the holes in the stainless steel box? Your help will be appreciated!Rik Rok

I'm thinking again...... How about a temp control knob, from a burner on a stove, to reduce the heat output of your heating element... I'm also thinking, that element may not be the correct element if it needs a fan for cooling.... I'm not sure what kind of a system you have built... Seems strange to me.....
Most electric smokers work without all the trimmings you have installed....

Maybe the Smoke Daddy is injecting too much air for what the smoker can adequately handle...

The unit I have built is much like the units made by the sausage maker if u would like to see them. This smoker is completely temp controled +or - 2degrees. It is not the size of a little chief and needs an element big enough to heat and to recover.

I like indoors too. i am building a traulsen food proofer smoker as well and im about half way done just need a pellet pro auger and some rope gasketto seal it cuz the old gasketwas damaged
