Accross the pond in the UK
hi, just about to buy my first smoker,

please advise the difference between the Gourmet smoker and the Smoke n grill.

apart from the Gourmey being a bit more expensive, i cant seem to find a comparison to explain why.

i am all prepared for the required mods, just need to buy the best smoker to work on.

very little to choose from in the UK, the Brinkmann is around $150 over here.

Welcome to SMF engineman! I don't know if there are any comparison reviews on this site, but they are both reviewed separately:

The smoke n grill needs quite a bit of mods to be a good smoker. If I was going to buy one or the other, i would probably buy the gourmet model.

None of them have reliable thermometers so you would do well to go ahead and purchase a good dual probe thermometer so you can probe the meat and also measure the cooker temps.

If you like to tinker around and you are fairly handy, you might want to consider building a min WSM which consists of a Weber Smokey Joe and a pot cut to fit. Not sure if those would be available in the UK?

Ask some more questions, I'm sure you will get lots of answers!

I think it still needs most of the same mods. Definitely the thermometer and lid vent and lid gasket. Hopefully, engineman will do a thread on his mods!

True. How about your take on the mods and a couple before and after shots? I found an electric one locally on craigslist... thinking about grabbing it. I think I can get it for the right price. I already have propane and charcoal covered...
