I have a buddy that's wanting to get a smoker and he had his eye on a brinkman heavy duty vertical. I've never used this smoker before as I've been a traditional offset guy. Looks to me to be a similar setup except obviously being vertical. Any pros or big cons with this smoker? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Brooksy. The best advice I could give you is to keep a LOG of all your Smokes. Type of Meat, Smoker, fuel , Prep. methods and proceedures , temp.  of the Smoker at time of introduction of meat , target temp. ,Weather , and any other variable you may want to track.

This makes for an invaluable source of reference for future Smokes. This also makes "learning" your Smoker's operation and finding all the hot and cold spots. Smokers , like Women need a lot of attention . . .the results will be nothing but LOVE.

Thanks for the advice Oldschool but I'm not the one getting a new smoker (not yet at least) My buddy wants one and he's trying to decide which to get. He's looking at a vertical brinkman and I've never cooked on one so I can't give him any pros or cons of the rig. Was hoping to get some info from anyone that possibly might have this type smoker. The log idea is great but I'm really bad at keeping notes.
