Can the bbq probe of the Maverick ET 732 be used as a 2nd meat thermometer. Has anyone tried it?

Hmmmm, with the exception of the 2F high reading on my 732's meat probe socket, the two probes read the same when used as chamber probes.  I don't see any reason why the chamber probe couldn't be used as a meat probe other than the fact won't extend very far into the meat.  Also, you'd have to use the sharp meat probe to make a hole in the meat for the chamber probe because the 732 chamber probe doesn't have a point.  If you try and force it in you'll pinch the end, possibly shorting out the probe, making it useless.

Give it a try and let us know what you discover.  Can't hurt anything.

I have one 732, the two 3 foot shorty probes that came with it, two aftermarket six foot chamber probes and two 6 foot food probes.  I have them labeled at the end that goes into the 732 as "chamber top, chamber bottom, food top, food bottom" for my WSM.  I just switch them out when I want to check the temps on the probes that are not connected.

My understanding is that the hybrid 733 probes also fit the 732, but someone else can confirm that fact.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try it next time and report back.
